RAM vs RIM: A Dreadful Cantata (aka, Monkberry vs Crackberry)

1/30/2013

So, what can we learn from a dreadful cantata*?

The answer lies in the lyrics to Monkberry Moon Delight below. Hopefully, you will get the gist of this letter...

In the way of context, Research In Motion (RIM) today released its long-anticipated Blackberry 10 and changed its official name to Blackberry Limited. This is my personal tribute to the folks who brought us, what has affectionately come to be known as the Crackberry.

BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ: RIMM and TSX: RIM), formerly known as Research in Motion (RIM), is a Canadian telecommunication equipment company best known as the developer of the BlackBerry smartphone and tablet.

The company is headquartered in Waterloo, ON.
RAM is an album by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney, released in 1971, the only album credited to the pair. Set against the backdrop of the legal action taking place in Britain's High Court with the dissolution of The Beatles partnership, following their break-up the year before, Ram was the second of two albums McCartney released between quitting The Beatles and forming Wings, whose future drummer Denny Seiwell played on the record.

Monkberry Moon Delight (featured in the video below) is the second cut on Side 2 of the LP, which you can listen to in its entirety using the Spotify player above. IMHO, this album is getting better with age...

WHERE IS UNCLE ALBERT WHEN WE NEED HIM???

"Monkberry Moon Delight by Paul & Linda McCartney (1971)

So I sat in the attic,
A piano up my nose,
And the wind played a dreadful cantata (cantata, cantata).
Sore was I from the crack of an enemy's hose,
And the horrible sound of tomato (tomato, tomato).

Catchup! (Catchup)
Soup puree (Soup puree),
Don't get left behind (get left behind)
Catchup! (Catchup)
Soup puree (Soup puree),
Don't get left behind (get left behind, get left behind, get left behind)...

When a rattle of rats had awoken,
The sinews, the nerves, and the veins.
My piano was boldly outspoken, in attempts to repeat its refrain.

So I stood with a knot in my stomach,
And I gazed at that terrible sight
Of two youngsters concealed in a barrel,
Sucking monkberry moon delight.

Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight.

Well, I know my banana is older than the rest,
And my hair is a tangled beretta.
When I leave my pajamas to Billy Budapest,
And I don't get the gist of your letter (your letter, your letter...).

Catch up! (catch up),
Cats and kittens (cats and kittens),
Don't get left behind (get left behind)
Catch up! (catch up),
Cats and kittens (cats and kittens),
Don't get left behind (get left behind, get left behind, get left behind)...

Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight,
Monkberry moon delight...

RAMBLE ON, the name of my SLOG was inspired by the Led Zeppelin song with the same name. It also describes the content, which reflects my very random observations about life, work and my endless pursuit of the sublime. See tag list below...
